They incorporated safety cables into the barbell so you can perform free weight movements, with similar safety you would expect to find in a smith machine. The thing I really like about the Weider Pro 575 is that it uses free weights instead of relying on a fixed plane of motion of home gyms like the Weider 9600. Using freeweights is superior to machines to help you recruit stabilizer muscles during each exercise.

The price of the Weider 575 home gym is reasonalbe, but you'll have to provide your own barbell and weights. That's not a huge deal though, because you can get the weight as you need them. If you shop around you should be able to get a complete 300 lb olympic size weight set for about $100.
